Worms!

WORMY WORMS!

A quick end of year post on... Worm farming! We spent the last enviro session for 2012 working on our worm farms.
We have a hungry bin already set up, but wanted to get our second worm farm going. We've spent a couple of sessions learning about worms.

Here we are setting up our "can of worms" worm farm.
Soaking the coconut fibre material that comes with the kit.

Meagan Miller from the Wellington City Council came in to work with us. It was great having her expertise and guidance! Thank you Meagan.

Transferring the material.

Woohoo! The worms will have a great time living here.

Tune in next year for an update!!!

Year 6 Harakeke Planting

Harakeke planting

Last Wednesday the Year 6 Whanau Group Leaders and Year 6 Enviro Group leaders planted harakeke. The harakeke was donated by the WCC and the planting session was led by our enviro schools facilitator Amanda Dobson.

We started by listening to the creation story. Thanks for reading it to us Amanda.
We planned before where we thought the best place to plant the harakeke would be.
Thank you to our caretaker John for digging the holes into the hard clay! We put some clay breaker into the holes before we planted the harakeke.
Here we are with what it looked like before!
What a beautiful day for planting!

Watering the harakeke.
We finished with a mihi.

We are looking forward to watching our harakeke grow. We'll miss Johnsonville School! But we've left a legacy!!!
